Do not judge those lost to suicide or their survivors. It is easy to sit in judgment saying, “I would never take my own life. Nothing could ever be that bad.” The reality is that each person has his or her own breaking point. We do not know what we would do if we truly reached that place of ultimate desperation. We cannot know what led someone else to that place. Compassion, not judgment, is what each of us needs more to see, to feel and to express. We need to show loving compassion whenever anyone experiences loss. The one grieving a suicide loss needs that compassion even more, because of the stigma and perceived shamefulness of the act. Let love, not judgment, be our watchword. Peace!
